I’m all about experimentation, but sometimes all you need are some simple and chic pieces to complete the perfect look. Growing up very modestly, it was only on special occasions where my parents took me shopping. As a kid that meant the back-to-school season – now as a ‘grown-up’ it’s the start of the fall season which is kicked off by fashion week. I learned at a very young age to pick pieces that would allow for multiple uses and can transition from mild to cold climates.

During every shopping trip my mom always asked, “where are you wearing that?” and “how many times will you use it?” which let me know that I wouldn’t get a new blouse or jeans unless I was able to justify multiple uses for them (which I was always able to do – it’s where my negotiation skills were developed!) This kind of thinking has always stayed with me and I find myself asking these questions whenever I add a new piece to my wardrobe. 

Another amazing aspect about back to school and fashion week season? You never know where the day will take you – so you should dress for the day.  A striped top is a closet must-have and I paired it with a favorite skirt of mine – a pleated midi skirt, which can be worn many ways and to many different events! The moral of the story, keep it simple, stay chic and always stay true to your street style.
